LAWRENCE, Kan. — Shawnee Mission Medical Center hosted a men’s fantasy basketball camp at Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday. It was definitely  a dream come  for two players.

KU fans were able to play on the very floor where they root for their favorite team every season. Alison Sperry saw the ad for the camp and knew she had to make it happen for two of the most important men in her life.

Her dad and her son both know how fragile life can be. They were both diagnosed with cancer.

“My grandson and  my husband are both cancer survivors,” said Patricia Kuehn. “They were both stage four cancers and both of them were told to go home and prepare your family for death.”

Wyatt lost his leg to the disease but both of them are still alive. That’s why the camp was not only a celebration of Mr. Kuehn’s 83rd birthday but also the fact that both men are cancer free.

Kuehn gradated from KU in the 50’s. He met his wife at a KU basketball tournament. Wyatt, a lifelong fan grew up watching KU games with his grandpa.

“It’s great to be able to come out here and play  basketball on the floor,” Wyatt said.

Wyatt who played basketball in high school didn’t miss a beat. Family and friends say there was no better place for the men to celebrate.
