OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — From riding the bus to crossing the street we all want our kids to be safe going back to school. Saturday hundreds of metro kids learned some valuable life lessons while having fun. It was Safety Day at the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in Overland Park.
Saturday kids play with and feed goats, get inside of a fire truck and sit in a Children’s Mercy medical helicopter.
“School’s about to start, it’s time for kids to start thinking about safe practices to go back to school,” said Kathi Limbocker with the farmstead.
Busy mom April Eagan brought her kids. She said safety is a lesson she’s always trying to teach.
“Absolutely that’s one of our main focus having three kids, especially if I’m by myself with them they need to know safety is very important,” she said.
Limbocker said Safety Day is a popular one for the farmstead that depicts a turn-of-the-century family farm equipped with nearly 200 animals.
“Deanna Rose is a gem in our city and they want come out to see Deanna Rose and all these value added activities are just one more thing they appreciate at the farmstead,” said Limbocker.
The Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 1 to Oct. 31, 2014. During the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day), the Farmstead is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
