KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Students at some Kansas City metro schools spent the year turning pop tabs into cash.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities announced Saturday that during this school year, students brought in more than $30,000 worth of pull tabs.
On Saturday, dozens of students volunteered their time at the Ronald McDonald House located on Cherry Street to process an estimated 13 tons worth of pull tabs.
The charity says it’s amazing how big an impact something as small as a pull tab can make.
“It’s almost unbelievable when you think how small they are- each one barely weighs anything but one by one by one they add up to tons and tons and tons every year,” said Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City’s Alan Lubert.
All of those pull tabs are sold to a local recycler.
Nearly 200 metro schools took part in the pull tab collection program.
