KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Wayne Flaitz said he was only gone from his home for an hour on Friday afternoon. When he returned, he said it had been turned upside down.
His prescription painkillers were gone, as well as his liquid testosterone and the needles he uses to inject it. He’s a disabled veteran and says these missing medications are vital for him to cope.
“In total 300 to 400 tablets altogether were taken, which is not just bad to be stolen, but bad for society because in the wrong hands they can do a lot of damage,” said Flaitz.
Also missing were his and his wife’s wedding bands.
“They didn’t just take stuff from us, they took a piece of our security and privacy,” he said. “My kids don’t want to sleep in their bedrooms by themselves and that’s sad because one thing I’m big on is the security of my family, and my family means everything to me.”
Included in his family are his two dogs who he said were beat up by the intruder.
“When I went outside my big dog was tied up to the shed so tight she couldnt lay down. Her chest was cut up and scratched and her jaw was swollen,” said Flaitz. “My little dog wouldn’t even come out from under the shed.”
Flaitz said police believe the burglar is someone who knows his family and he said he’s disgusted by whomever is to blame.
“It’s not right for somebody to take something that they didnt deserve,” he said.
Flaitz said they’ll be installing security cameras and audio sensors in the home to help the family feel more secure.
