KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A woman killed by her husband three years ago was remembered on Saturday by her family and friends. In February 2012, Shon Pernice pled guilty and finally fessed up to killing his wife and getting rid of her body that’s still hasn’t been found.
“She was just the most loving person and always, cared about every else,” said Renee Pernice’s mom, Linda Lockwood.
Pernice was killed on January 1, 2009 two weeks after her family says she planned to file for divorce from her husband Shon.
“She had a beautiful life and we want to make sure that we remember the good parts,” Lockwood said.
In 2007, FOX 4’s Monica Evans met the 35-year-old mother. Pernice and her sons talked to FOX 4 when her husband sent FOX 4 a Christmas card asking us not to forget about his family while he was serving overseas. Pernice shared her beautiful smile and loving heart during the interview. Her boys now 12 and 10-years-old are doing fine according to Renee’s mother who has custody of them.
“When things happen that remind them of their mother they have a down,” Lockwood said .
Memories of Renee are all that remain, something her sister says she’ll never get used to.
“It doesn’t get easier,” said the victim’s sister, Lisa Money. “You wake up in the morning and you think i can just pick up the phone and call them and you think this is something i would love to share with my sister or we would be talking about this now or enjoying this moment together and it’s something you never get used to not being able to do that.”
One thing family and friends were able to do for Renee is give her a formal, final farewell and let her boys know how well a life she lived and how she loved and cared for people.
