KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A million dollars worth of meth has been taken off the streets according to the Jackson County Drug Task Force. People living in a Kansas City neighborhood reacted to the bust that happened right next door.
Neighbors say they saw a lot of suspicious activity at a home on the corner of 44th and Sterling Avenue. When investigators got here Tuesday morning, they found out a neighbor’s gut instincts were spot on. K-9s found a stash of meth with a street value of $2 million dollar in the fender of a silver Nissan.
Investigators say the drugs belonged to Valdemar Rivera-Madrigal and Omar Rivera-Valencia. Both were charged with a class a felon for drug trafficking. Investigators believe they brought the drugs to the metro from Mexico. Neighbors say the two had lived in the home for a few months.
The 22 pounds of meth were being held just 500 feet from Northwood Elementary School. A 16-year-old living in the home was also taken into custody.
The process to discovering the meth started with an anonymous tip from someone in the neighborhood. Investigators say because someone decided to speak up, a $2 million dollar dent will be put in meth sales in Jackson County.
