JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Public Service Commission says that the agency’s Cold Weather Rule – which is designed to keep the heat on for Missouri residents struggling to pay their bills, will begin on November 1.
The rule prohibits utility companies from disconnecting heat-related services such as electricity and natural gas when the temperature drops below freezing, and will run through March 31, 2013.
It also allows customers to budget their payments over 12 months.
The rule does not apply to municipally-operated systems, co-ops and services that deliver propane by truck.
