JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Missouri at all state government buildings in Jackson County be flown at half-staff on Sept. 29 in honor of Clifton J. Scott, of Kansas City, a Motorist Assistance Operator who worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation. On Sept. 21, 2012, Scott, age 50, lost his life while assisting law enforcement re-route traffic around a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 70.
“Public service is a high calling, and many Missouri public servants willingly put themselves in harm’s way each day to protect us,” Gov. Nixon said. “Clifton Scott gave his life while working to safeguard others. Our prayers and condolences are with the family and friends of this dedicated public servant.”
Under Gov. Nixon’s order, U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in the Jackson County will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Sept. 29, the day the funeral services for Scott will take place.
