CAMDENTON, Mo. — A central Missouri mother who claims that she was “possessed” is under arrest, accused of slitting the throat of her 9-month-old daughter.

Bradie Simpson, 39, of Camdenton faces first-degree assault for the February 4th attack. She is in the Camden County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash-only bond.

The baby girl was severely wounded in the attack, but has been released from the hospital in good condition. She is now in protective custody.

According to Camden County Sheriff’s deputies, Simpson and the child were found in the woods, covered in blood, after Simpson’s adult son called 911. Police reports say that Simpson slit her daughter’s throat and then her own, and both were taken to the hospital for emergency surgery.

Deputies also found heroin inside Simpson’s Camdenton home.

According to KMOX-TV, the woman’s pastor says that Simpson, claiming to be “possessed,” handed him her baby last October, saying that she was scared that she might harm the child.

The child was briefly taken by the Missouri Children’s Division before being returned to Simpson following that incident.
