KANSAS CITY, Mo.–The national unemployment rate is at nine percent, but for the blind or visually impaired that number is 72 percent.

From making prescription bottles, ball point pins to even packaging boulevard beer, Alphapointe is the largest employer of the blind and visually impaired in the State of Missouri. Right now, they employee 100 blind workers, but that number is going up. Alphapointe is now adding six more positions for a two year government contract worth one-point-five million dollars. The project will employee six blind and two sighted employees.

The six employees for the new contract start in December. Alphapointe will add a call center in February, adding ten more jobs for the blind.
