KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The mother of a 28-year-old man who was charged this week with the murder of a 62-year-old woman said she is saying prayers for the family of Graciela Olivas, who was also a mother.
Olivas was in her car at 34th and Shawnee Drive Monday evening when police say Christopher Stewart crashed into her as he fled from them, running a stop sign and hitting the driver’s side of Olivas’ car.

Wyandotte County Prosecutors charged Stewart with first-degree murder, fleeing to elude police and interference with a law enforcement officer. All charges are felonies.
“If I had it my way I would be burying my son and not apologizing for my son’s part in Ms. Olivas’ death,” Jackie Wakefield, Stewart’s mother, told FOX 4 on Friday.
She said her son has three children and has been in and out of trouble. She told the judge Friday that her son had a problem, but says he is a good person who loves his family.
“We are so sorry this happened and I hope what ever the outcome is that it should never happen again,” said Wakefield.
