LEXINGTON, NC — On the very last day of her senior year of high school, Violet Burkhart was told to leave school with just two hours left in the day, because teachers told her her dress, which she had previously worn to school on multiple occasions, was a half inch too short. Now her mother, Amy Redwine, is taking a supportive stand by wearing that same dress to her daughter’s graduation ceremony.
Redwine told FOX 4’s sister station WGHP-TV when her daughter called her just a couple hours before end of her high school career that day, she was very upset.
“It’s supposed to be one of her best days and she’s there crying,” said Redwine about what her daughter went through on the last day of school.
Redwine said that by wearing Burkhart’s dress she isn’t protesting against the school’s dress code , but instead thinks that the school’s administrators could have handled the situation differently.
