KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some metro area mothers are uniting and taking a stand against Kansas City’s homicide rate.
The women have formed a new group called “Ad hoc Mothers In Charge” after each had children who were victims of violence.
One of them is Rosilyn Temple. Her son, Antonio, was shot to death inside in apartment in Kansas City on November 23, 2011. He was just 26 years old.
Antonio’s killer has never been caught — and that’s why his mother said she is leading the group.
“It just has to stop and we are mothers taking a stand,” Temple said. “We’re gonna do something about it.”
The group has signed a petition to send to their congressional leaders hoping to persuade those in Washington, D.C. to support federal legislation that bans assault weapons, regulates gun shoes and stresses gun safety.
“A hundred signatures equals one thousand, equals 10,000, so whatever the efforts that we can initiate to go before Congress and say put a cap on the guns that are on the streets… that’s what we’re willing to do,” member DeWanna O’Guinn said.
Eleven mothers currently make up the group.
