OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Dr. William Corporon was murdered Sunday just four blocks from Menorah Medical Center. It’s where he had previously cared for emergency room patients.
Menorah sits south of the Jewish Community Center and just north of Village Shalom, the two shooting scenes. Dr. Corporon practiced in Menorah’s emergency department from 2007 to 2010. A former colleague remembered him as extremely kind and caring.
“He talked a lot about the practice he’d had in Oklahoma and how much he loved that. He really was an old-fashioned family doctor — I mean just all-encompassing when it came to taking care of a patient,” said Dr. Denise Miller, Menorah’s Chief Medical Officer.
At a news conference, Dr. Corporon’s son, Will, said he’s heard from many of those Oklahoma patients, “who said my child — his hands were the first hands on this planet that touched my children, and I’m so grateful for that.”
Dr. Corporon gave up his practice in Duncan, Oklahoma, in 2003 to be near his family — his grandchildren.
“Which he talked about very proudly,” said Dr. Miller.
For the past two years, Dr. Corporon was medical director for Concentra Urgent Care in Grandview, Missouri.
A spokesman told FOX 4: “Dr. Corporon was not only our friend and colleague but an extremely gifted and highly respected member of our community. His important work as a general practitioner touched the lives of thousands of people.”
“My dad should be seeing patients today at his work,” said Will.
Instead, the clinic was closed Monday. The staff is in mourning.
