KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local neighborhood takes a stand, vowing to rebuild two homes set on fire. The Blue Hills neighborhood and its neighbors were renovating the homes, when an arsonist set them ablaze.
Three homes on the 55th Street corridor, near 55th and Highland, were abandoned. A neighbor took money from her life savings to purchase the homes and renovate them. In mid-June, an arsonist set two of them on fire.
On Tuesday that neighbor and the Blue Hills Neighborhood Association held a press conference. They stood on the steps in front of one of the burned-out homes, asking for the community’s help.
They said what happened on this block is a tragedy, and it’s important to rebuild. The group is launching a fundraising campaign. The goal is to raise $20,000 by August 15.
