PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — City leaders are considering plans for the now-empty Mission Valley Middle School, but some residents in the neighborhood are not happy with some of the ideas being considered.
On Monday night, the Prairie Village City Council will vote on whether or not to approve a consultants study for the former Mission Valley Middle School property near 84th Street and Mission.
According to a group of neighbors opposed to the plan, which they say would cost taxpayers $80 – 90,000 to pay for consultants to study use for the now-vacant property, it could lead the way to rezoning the property.
According to the Mission Valley Neighbors Association. a proposal by RED Development Partnership would turn the school into a mixed-use site which would be approximately the size of Corinth Square and The Village shopping centers.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Shawnee Mission East High School cafeteria.
