KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A shooting that left three people dead and two people injured in a normally placid neighborhood made for scary moments for people living nearby.
Residents say violence isn’t customary for their area. The scene Tuesday night was certainly calmer in the Woodbridge neighborhood, which is a lot different earlier in the day. Many people living near 127th Terrace and Wornall said they have been living in the area for decades and call the neighborhood safe.
“They don’t even put up speed traps here,” said John Keys. “You look at all this and, you know, it’s a very good place. So now you have something that’s different.”
Several people showed up throughout the afternoon, trying to get into their homes and were quickly derailed. Some tell us the shooting has somewhat shaken their sense of security.
“Very sad that people have been wounded and killed, and we’ve seen ambulances and helicopters and police cars, it’s just been chaotic,” Lois Vereecke said.
“I’ve never felt threatened before like that. I’ll be anxious to hear the details and everything because it’s scary,” Linda Bolin said.
As neighbors wait for things to get back to normal, they say their thoughts and prayers are with those injured and the families of those who lost their loved ones.
