KANSAS CITY, Mo. – New bars and restaurants will “beef up” the corner of 37th and Broadway in Kansas City, Mo. So it’s only appropriate a restaurant with “hamburger” in its name is leading the new development.
Jeff Edmondson and his partners own Hamburger Mary’s, they’re teaming up with the company that owns the Uptown Theater building and the mall across the street to open two new bars and two restaurants. Edmondson’s company will also renovate and manage an existing bar next to the Uptown. One of the new bars will be a “video bar,” seen mostly in larger cities right now.
“Maybe there will be an ’80’s video night where you’ll do all 80’s all evening long. It’s video entertainment,” said Edmondson.
Hamburger Mary’s is choosing to leave its current Crossroads location in part because of cost.
“The price that the current owner is asking for and does not seem to want to budge is way beyond what the market will bear,” Edmondson said.
Though Edmondson said he’ll miss the current location.
“It has really grown over the last 4 years since we’ve been here, and I hope and pray that that is what continues to happen in the Crossroads district,” he said.
He’s looking forward to playing a role in helping another part of the city grow too.
The new Hamburger Mary’s will be open by July 2014.
A high-end Tex-Mex restaurant and microbrewery is expected to be complete between 2015 and 2016.
