KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Monday was the five year anniversary of the iron worker who died while helping construct the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Friends, family, and other union workers attended the memorial on behalf of Ryan Goodman, who passed away during the construction of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts five years ago.
After years of planning, Monday was the dedication of the bench right across the street from the Kauffman Center built in memory of Goodman. City councilman Scott Wagner says this is an opportunity for the city to say thanks, and Goodman’s wife says this dedication means so much to her.
“It takes a lot to build these great buildings that we have here in Kansas City, and so this is a small way for us to say thank you to both Ryan, the iron workers which he was a member of, and to his family as well for the sacrifices they always make,” said Councilman Scott Wagner, 1st District, KCMO.
“I find myself down here at least on this day every year, I’ve always put flowers down…now there’s a marker so that we have a spot to come and visit every year instead of kind of looking around and wishing,” said Christie Goodman, Ryan’s widow.
Christie says her husband worked on various construction projects around this city and felt a memorial was appropriate.
