JOPLIN, Mo. –People in Joplin took part in a 3.7 mile walk on Tuesday that started where the tornado ended. The day was packed with sadness and joy. Mary Ann Fryar is a proud Joplin resident and proud Joplin teacher. The highlight of the unity walk was an easy one for her.
“I’m here to see the ground breaking of the high school that I’m eventually going to teach in,” Fryar said.
Another teacher and parent, Kristi McGowen feels the same way. Her daughter will be a senior next year and was chosen to take part in the ground breaking.
“We’ve seen new businesses and houses come up all over town and it’s just real exciting to see the kids finally get to see their place of business gonna be built,” McGowen said.
Supt. CJ Huff has been waiting for this day for a quite a while and after the official dedication was made and earth was moved, he wanted to thank all of the kids who helped his kids, the students of Joplin.
“If there’s anything I’ve learned in this storm that this next generation of kids , they’re a great group of kids,” Huff said. “The support from around the country and nation from kids that have little to nothing ,but want to give to help the kids here in Joplin is amazing.”
