KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame is coming to Union Station this summer in a unique traveling exhibit called Gridiron Glory.
Union made the announcement Thursday regarding its next exhibit, and several Kansas City Chief Hall of Famers were present for the big reveal.
For those who have never visited the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, the exhibit might be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see more than 200 football artifacts, photos and rare documents that tell the story of America’s love of the gridiron. Those visiting the exhibit will be able to try on jerseys and shoulder pads, make calls in the instant replay booth and test their kicking and passing skills against the pros.
There will be NFL Films footage of great moments in the sport’s history. And a look at great players, including Johnny Unitas, Jim Brown and Joe Namath. The exhibit will review dynasties, teams that were too tough to beat in every era.
A hometown heroes section also will pay tribute to the Chiefs history in Kansas City.
“This is unique, it’s happened in a few cities,” said Bill Chapin, senior vice president of business operations for the Chiefs. “It’s coming from Arizona on the heels of Super Bowl 49. But to have it going right into our year and a special year none the less with Will Shields, our Chiefs player and guard being inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame, the timing is amazing. Leading into the season, people can’t miss this.”
The exhibit opens Memorial Day weekend and runs through Labor Day. General admission tickets will cost nearly $15 for adults. Kids can get in for nearly $12.
Exhibits like this one help pay the bills for keeping Union Station open and operating. Union Station’s president expects Gridiron Glory to be among the most popular exhibits to come to the historic building.
