Near HARRISONVILLE, Mo. — Crews spent Thursday installing a safe room on the property of a home near Harrisonville.
The storm shelter/safe-room weighs about 15,000 pounds and will hold five to eight people.
As you can see in the pictures in the photo gallery below, it created a lot of excitement among the grandkids who watched the crew install it.
David Welzenbach, product manager for Si Precast Concrete, said right now the company has about a two-week waiting list before they can set it in the ground. He says the Moore, Okla. tornado has reminded people that tornadoes are a real possibility in our area.
“We try to carry quite a bit of inventory, knowing that when spring hits we have a high demand. We always seem to run out of storm shelters quickly when it does happen,” Welzenbach said.
For this one, it cost the homeowner approximately $3,000.
“They’re looking for the peace of mind,” Welzenbach said. “They’re asking for a place to go. A lot of older generations call it ‘fraidy holes’ and they’re always looking for a safe place to be when the storm hits.”
