Brevard, NC (WHNS) — Family and friends of an 11-year-old Brevard girl battling terminal cancer have taken to social media to help grant her one wish.

That wish is for Bethany Cobb to meet the band One Direction.

She was diagnosed with stage four metastatic melanoma in September, but despite undergoing clinical trials and treatment, the cancer continues to spread and aggressively attack her, according to family friend and Battle for Bethany Facebook page administrator Tracy Reynolds.

Reynolds said despite the dire prognosis, Bethany is at peace and continues to inspire others with her story and faith in God.

“She is always wanting to help other people and give to other people, and now we want to do something big to her,” Reynolds said.

That something started with an application to the Make a Wish Foundation. Reynolds said Bethany was approved for a wish, but because they only thing she could wish for is so big, they don’t know if it will happen in time.

So to help get the word out about Bethany’s battle and her dream to meet her favorite band, they’re asking for people’s help making her wish go viral.

Reynolds said while they realize One Direction may not be able to come to Brevard to meet Bethany because she cannot travel, even if she could Skype or video chat with the band it would bring joy to her. She said Bethany loves the band so much she only uses her One Direction blanket, keeps posters of them in her room and a commemorative teddy bear by her side at all times.

Supporters are asking people to reach out to One Direction via email, post on their Facebook page with the #1DforBethany, and post photos of themselves on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with the comment, “We/I want to see Bethany meet @onedirection! Make her wish come true! #1DforBethany.”
