KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Die-hard Chiefs’ fans didn’t let freezing weather cool their excitement for Sunday’s big game against Indianapolis.
Fans had a division clinch on their Christmas wish list, and although a win didn’t come, they still had high hopes, and also some tailgating survival skills.
The weather outside was frightful leading into Chiefs’ Sunday, but crews at Arrowhead Stadium spent the night preparing for the pre-Christmas parking lot party they knew would draw revelers.
“The weather isn’t going to have any impact. KC is going to come out and do what we do. We are going to win today, “said hopeful Chiefs’ fan, Jason Bryant.
Fair weather fans may have waited till game time to arrive, but nothing could keep these Chiefs’ tailgaters from the celebration of a long-awaited wild card.
“We got some pancakes and eggs going just to get the body warmed up, and then we got some ribs in one of the trucks and some brats and burgers, so we will be nice and warm before the game starts,” said tailgater, Ricky Sanford.
The early morning winds outside the stadium were brisk but the warmth from several thousand open fires was delightful.
“Layered up and brought plenty of wood for the fire,” said fan, Terry Doyal.
Flames heavily stoked with the hope for a long shot at a division clinch.
“We got it Denver is going to drop the ball. They will mess up and KC will come out on top,” predicted Bryant.
Predictions for the playoffs abound, but either way fans have their post season play in the bag, and their food on the grill.
