KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thankfully, those willing to wait in line for Friday morning’s release of the newest iPad had mild temperatures and dry skies in Kansas City.
At the Apple Store on the Country Club Plaza, the line got longer as the morning got later; the first person reportedly started standing in line at 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon for the Friday 8:00 a.m store opening.
Sarah Kaiser, one of the dozens in line on the Plaza, said she arrived at about 4:00 a.m. Friday to take her place in line.
“I’m stoked! I’ve been saving money I’ve been thinking about it. What do I wanna get? What do I wanna get?” said Kaiser.
“The day that it was announced, and they were like, ‘It’s March 16th,’ I requested it off immediately from work and my boss was awesome and let me off so I could come get it.”
The third generation iPad from Apple has several new upgrades like an HD display, better camera and 4G capability.
“It’s like watching a blue-ray player in your hands. It’s amazing,” said one iPad fan.
iPad enthusiasts are so excited, they want it right away.
“Part of it is part of the experience of being able to come to the Apple store and get your iPad…first, hands-on at 8:00 in the morning and have it right in your hands instead of waiting for the fed ex delivery to come give it to you,” Kaiser said.
Despite competition from cheaper rivals, the iPad remains the most popular tablet computer. More than 55 million iPads have been sold since its launch in 2010, including 40 million last year.
Beginning March 23, it will go on sale in 23 new countries.
