DETROIT — If ever there were an animated reporter, Charlie LeDuff would be it. In a recent FOX 2 Now report, LeDuff nearly becomes the story. But to his credit, he makes you want to keep watching — ensuring his story is heard to the very end.
In his most recent story, LeDuff pokes fun at the City of Detroit. Why? Because, according to LeDuff, they are punishing a Detroit paramedic for giving a cold, half-naked man a blanket. The blanket was donated, but the city said employees must get permission to give “department property” away.
Outraged, LeDuff called the city out.
“This might be the most ridiculous and bone-headed Detroit ambulance story yet,” LeDuff said on camera. “It started two weeks ago when a house caught on fire. An old, cripple man lived inside. They brought him outside. He was in his underwear. It was cold. He was shivering. You give him a blanket, right? Right.”
That’s exactly what the paramedic did, but then he was reprimanded.
“I got notified that I’ll be brought up on EMS departmental charges,” Jeff Gaglio, paramedic, said.
And that made both Gaglio and LeDuff sick — sick to their stomachs.
The next thing LeDuff does in his report is climb in bed with the punished paramedic — not to console him, but to interview him.
