KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Police have identified a man shot and killed by officers on Saturday after he reportedly swung a sword at them. The man has been identified as 50-year-old Carlos Davenport.

Around 10 p.m. on Saturday, officers from the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department responded to an armed disturbance in the 1100 block of Washington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a black male in his 50s, who was armed with a sword.

Police commanded the man to drop the sword, but the suspect refused. The suspect charged at an officer and as a result the officer shot the suspect, who died from his injuries at the scene.

The officer involved in the incident wasn’t injured. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
