KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police responded to the scene of an attempted robbery at a pharmacy in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday. According to police the attempted robbery may be connected to an earlier robbery at a Walgreens in Liberty.
The second incident was reported to be in progress shortly after noon on Tuesday at Spalitto’s Pharmacy, located at 3801 Independence Avenue. The suspect in this case is described as a dark-skinned white female, wearing a purple shirt, shiny black scarf, dark sunglasses and blue jeans. Police believe this suspect could be the same as the woman described in the earlier robbery.
Police said the woman was after a controlled substance, possibly OxyContin, and believe she left the scene in a maroon Chevy Trail Blazer with temporary tags.
According to police the earlier robbery happened at a 24-hour Walgreens store on W. Kansas Street in Liberty just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday. During that incident, one man and one woman wearing hoodies and masks walked into the Walgreens and directly to the pharmacy. The robbers jumped over the counter, grabbed the pharmacist and forced him to unlock the OxyContin. The pharmacist told police that he felt something in his back which he thought was a gun, but later police said the suspects did not have weapons.
The suspects took an unknown amount of OxyContin and left out of the back door, according to police.
The suspects then fled the scene in an older gold-colored Cadillac or Impala. Police said the license plates were covered, but witnesses said there were three people inside of the vehicle, two men and one woman.
Police told FOX 4 that the Walgreens did have surveillance, but the suspects stayed away from the cameras. Police are checking with other businesses to see if any other surveillance video caught the suspects.
One of the suspects is described as a white male who was wearing a light blue American Eagle hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, blue jeans and a black surgical mask. The other suspect is described as a white female who was wearing an olive-green hooded sweatshirt with zebra print, black gloves, blue jeans and a black surgical mask.
Police said the suspects headed north on 291 Highway after leaving the Walgreens.
