OLATHE, Kan. — Firefighters rescued a woman after a fire swept through her home in the 2000 block of East Mohawk in Olathe, Kan. The 911 call came in just before 7 Friday morning with news that two people were trapped inside.
A man and the family dog were outside when crews arrived, but the woman was trapped on the first floor.
“Thankful the firefighters were able to grab her pull her out of there,” Public Information Officer, Mike Hall, said. “Everybody is doing okay right now.”
Hall said they were both “very lucky.”
“This is a great reminder, everybody go home test your smoke alarms by simply pressing the test button,” he said.
Investigators are checking out the cause of the fire, which caused significant damage to the home. The Red Cross is helping the couple figure out what their next step will be since the home was heavily damaged.
