OLATHE, Kan. — Another spelling bee victory for Vanya Shivashankar, a sixth-grader at California Trail Middle School in Olathe.

With her win on Thursday, Shivashankar is now headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee to be held on May 26 in Washington D.C.

Shivashankar won the Olathe district’s spelling bee last year, too. The winning word then was “cloche”. Click here for the definition from dictionary.com.

This year’s word, ‘maladroit’ is an adjective which means ‘awkward.’

The second place win went to Anna Ramasamy of Woodland Elementary School.
