LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Police are investigating after a fatal crash in Lee’s Summit on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, one person was killed in the two-car crash on Blue Parkway over I-470 around 1:00 p.m. Authorities say that the deceased was traveling in a Honda Accord westbound on the exit ramp from I-470 and was traveling through the intersection when he was struck by an SUV traveling northbound on Blue Parkway.

Police say that the impact was so powerful that the drivers-side door on the Honda was crushed nearly four feet into the passenger side of the vehicle.

Authorities say there are several witnesses who pulled the driver, identified only as a young male, from the Honda and tried to give him CPR, but firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene. Police say those same witnesses also have insight into what happened at the intersection.

Investigators are working to learn whether speed or alcohol were involved in the crash.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.

The driver of the second vehicle, also identified only as a young male, was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
