KANSAS CITY, Mo. — St. John Francis Regis Catholic School sent a letter home to parents after a plot to harm students and a teacher surfaced. One shocked viewer told FOX 4 she didn’t like the way the school handled it.
But FOX 4’s Mary Pulley also spoke with a parent who’s pleased with the school’s response. This mother said she also was not shocked to hear about the threat at her daughter’s school.
Wendy Lewis has a daughter in eighth grade at Saint John Francis Regis. She showed FOX 4 the letter she received, saying they were making parents aware about talk of a threat to do harm to classmates and a teacher. The letter states that school officials didn’t think the threat was credible, but they wanted let parents know.
“I’m not surprised at all about it, but I’m glad that they took care of it,” Lewis said.
Lewis said threats like these can even pop up in so-called “good schools.”
“Can’t expect nothing not to happen. I’ve got to just be faithful with God, trust in the Lord and walk the way he wants me to walk and whatever happens, happens,” she said.
One viewer sent a message to FOX 4 expressing displeasure with the way the superintendent handled the threat, but Lewis said the school did everything right in her opinion.
“They keep me abreast of everything that’s going on, so that’s another thing about it. They keep me abreast of everything going on. Letters, e-mails, all of the above and we got that right away,” she said.
One viewer told FOX 4 the student took a knife to school, and had a “hit list” of people to “take out.” The letter that went home does not indicate that. FOX 4 attempted, but was unable to hear from the school about the full nature of the threat.
