OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — An Overland Park man previously found guilty of trying to kill his boss was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison Friday.
Rieter Wirtz was found guilty on four counts of aggravated assault and one count of attempted first-degree murder stemming from a November 2013 incident where he allegedly stabbed his boss.
The attack happened at Bill Barr and Company, which is located at 8800 Grant Avenue in Overland Park. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call after it was reported that company president William Barr had been stabbed multiple times.
The police report also listed four co-workers as victims of aggravated assault. Police say those co-workers came to Barr’s aid, but no one else was stabbed.
Wirtz was sentenced to 24 years and 10 months for his charges.
