LOS ANGELES — A metro man was sentenced on Monday to 84 days in Los Angeles County Jail after pleading no contest to stalking singer Lana Del Rey. Zachary Self, 19, of Overland Park was arrested in December after being accused of breaking into the singer’s vacant Malibu home that was being renovated.

The Los Angeles County  District Attorney’s Office says that in addition to jail time, Self is on probation for five years and a 10-year protective order was filed against him.

According to a criminal complaint, Self stalked Del Rey on social media between November 2 and the day he was arrested on December 1. A police report said that construction workers found him in Del Rey’s garage on November 30, but he was not there when deputies arrived, though he allegedly left property behind. Self was arrested the next day during an undercover operation.

FOX 4 spoke with Self’s family after he was taken into custody. They stated they were aware of his delusion that he was in a relationship with the singer, but didn’t think anything would reach the point of stalking. They also said he had used drugs that changed his personality, and was making poor decisions he wouldn’t make otherwise.

Self faced a maximum of six years and eight months in California state prison if he had been convicted of initial charges of stalking and first-degree burglary.
