OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Police responding to the scene of a reported car crash early Sunday morning near College and Mastin actually responded to a crime scene. The Overland Park Police Department is investigating what it deems as an apparent murder-suicide. The victims were identified as Jamie Lee Newkirk, 27, and Jason Hershey Crabtree, 33.

Both Newkirk and Crabtree were found with in the car with gunshot wounds. Police have not stated who they believe fired the shots and the investigation is ongoing.

“We’ve got our crime scene out here processing, we called in Johnson County crime scene, we’ll take it back to our station for further processing,” officer Rachel Scattergood said on Sunday morning.
