OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Streets and sidewalks could get a face lift if voters in Overland Park approve a one eighth cent sales tax. Monday night a public hearing will be held at Overland Park City Hall on the proposed special election that would be held in October.
The one eighth cents sales tax would extend a current one eighth cent sales tax that is set to expire in March of next year. The tax would fund improvements to thoroughfares, residential streets, sidewalks, street lights, curbs and more.
The tax adds up to about one cent for every eight dollars purchased. In the past voters approved a one eighth cent sales tax in 1998, 2003 and 2008.
Monday’s meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at Overland Park City Hall.
