OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A fire damaged an Overland Park home early Monday morning.

According to authorities, the fire broke out in a home in the 9100 block of West 92nd Street shortly after midnight. The one resident in the home managed to escape the fire, which broke out in the kitchen of the home.

Firefighters say that the man was home alone and that he fell asleep while cooking and awoke to a house filling with smoke.

The man was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene. Fire investigators say that the home did not have a working smoke detector.
