LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — A series of break-ins at a storage center here has renters frustrated. Thieves broke into 25 units at the StorageMart on 50 Highway overnight. Renters say they’re concerned about the repeated burglaries.
In January, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says thieves burglarized 42 storage units at the same complex.
The sheriff’s office tells FOX 4 News that in January a couple vehicles were stolen from rental garages, as well as cash from the center’s office.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office says there have been 25 more break-ins and detectives are working right now to determine the losses. A storage unit renter who is a small businessman with equipment and other gear at the complex didn’t want to be identified, but says the repeated break-ins have him nervous about his livelihood.
“What I’m hoping is that in the future there’s some things that can be taking place to prevent this from happening,” the renter said.
The sheriff’s office says it’s reviewing video surveillance at the storage center to determine if suspects can be identified.

On Monday representative of StorageMart shared this response with FOX 4:
In December of 2014, StorageMart purchased Safety Storage, a chain of locally operated storage facilities in the KC metro area. StorageMart is approximately 25% complete in a portfolio-wide renovation of these stores that will total over $5 million when completed. Included in these upgrades are new lighting, controlled access gates and enhanced coverage of the property by CCTV surveillance. All of these improvements will be complete by the end of June 2015.
StorageMart is cooperating with local police and have provided all of its video surveillance tapes and access records in an effort to apprehend the individuals involved.
“Our hearts go out to anyone that has had to go through this awful invasion of their privacy, and we resolve to do our best to stamp out this activity,” said Cris Burnam, the president of StorageMart.
StorageMart has directly contacted customers affected by these break-ins. Customers may also contact the company by email at help@storage-mart.com for assistance.
