Friends and family in Atchison took time to remember the six men who lost their lives in a grain elevator explosion and fire.

The CEO of Bartlett and Company, the owner of the elevator, spoke publicly for the first time about the accident.

“Barlett is looking forward to the explanations as much as anyone,” said Jame Hebenstreit, “maybe more.”

A preliminary report on the cause of the explosion is expected from the Kansas State Fire Marshall next week. OSHA is expected to be on site for up to six months. The company has said it plans to reopen the elevator, but it’s not clear when that might happen.

Investigators this week gave approval to start removing some debris from the site.
