BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. — Bonner Springs High School is about a mile-and-a-half from the crash site at K-7 and K-32 where a school bus carrying sixth graders from Pembroke School ran off the road and flipped on its side. The high school is where all the sixth graders that didn’t go to area hospitals were taken so that parents could pick them up.
Less than an hour after the crash, parents began arriving. They were asked by Pembroke Hill School officials and Bonner Springs police to show identification to make sure everyone was going home with the right adult.
FOX 4 spoke with one parent who said his son was on the boys’ bus that was behind the girls’ bus when it crash on the ramp. Stephen Butler said he got the call about the crash from his wife who works at Pembroke.
“I’m glad I got the word before I got the view, it was grizzly. So, we are just waiting to find out whether any of the kids are badly hurt.
Kansas Highway Patrol Technical Trooper Howard Dickinson said that all of the students that were brought to the high school have been picked up.
Trooper Dickinson expressed extreme thanks to the high school for helping to keep all the sixth graders calm and happy with water and snacks while they waited for their parents to pick them up.
