INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A neighborhood business owner often dips into her own pocket to help folks in need so some of her customers decided to pay it forward to the generous woman who they say is helping make a difference in their community.
Lori Burroughs, who has owned the Kitty Kat Klub for the past two years, is known as the woman who helps out her customers and makes generous donations to the charities out of her own pocket.
“She helps out her customers that need medical help or bills that can’t take care,” said Julie Snead who nominated Burroughs for FOX 4’s “Pay it Forward” award. “She’s always there, and you don’t find business owners like that.”
Many of Burroughs’ customers call the bar their second home.
“She makes you feel welcome when you come in,” Snead said. “You’re not a stranger when you leave, and everyone knows your name. It’s like a modern day Cheers.”
“I didn’t see this coming at all, didn’t see that coming,” said Burroughs, who received $300 from FOX 4. “I think it I see it on TV all the time that’s so nice I never thought I’d be a recipient of ‘Pay it Forward’.”
