KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman was struck and killed by a truck Thursday morning near 42nd and Prospect.

Police said they believe the woman was crossing the street near a hill when a woman driving a red Chevy pickup truck struck her. The woman driver told police she didn’t realize she hit someone and continued driving for a short distance.

The woman then turned around and discovered the pedestrian lying in the street and called police.

The victim, identified as 50-year-old Marilyn L. Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., was transported to an area hospital where she died.

Police said the driver, whose name has not been released, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident is still under the investigation, but police said slick roads due overnight rains combined with the grade of the road – being on a slight hill – could have played a factor.
