MARSHALL, Mo. — Eddie Knox doesn’t buy his Powerball tickets anywhere else but the Break Time in Marshall.
“You know what? I hadn’t really started coming here until that guy won $250 million,” he said. “I feel like this is the lucky place to be.”
It was in April 2010 when Chris Shaw, an employee at the Break Time in Marshall won more than $258 million in the Powerball jackpot. He doesn’t work there anymore. Eddie Knox hopes he has the same luck.
“Just take it easy. Lay on the beach somewhere, Bahamas or something,” Knox said.
While Eddie’s okay shelling out an extra dollar for that chance of winning big, not every customer is.
“I’m not seeing as much sales as I used to,” said Robert Short, a Break Time cashier. “I had a gentleman today that said that he quit buying them because they went up to two dollars.”
While sales may be a bit slower overall, when the jackpot gets big enough, people take their chances.
“Once it reaches a hundred million, then you have a bunch of traffic, people coming in and buying them,” Short said.
They’re all hoping for the big win like Chris Shaw got a couple years ago and all the perks that go with the big check.
