PLEASANT HILL, Mo. – Two people, a man and a woman, were injured in an apartment fire in Pleasant Hill on Wednesday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m. the Pleasant Hill Fire Department was called to a home at the Broadway Village Apartments off of Broadway. The apartment that had caught fire was part of a four-plex.

The building was evacuated and everyone, with the exception of the two who were injured, made it out okay. The male and female were transported to an area hospital. Both had injuries, the male had burns and the female had minor injuries from inhaling the smoke.

There is smoke damage and fire damage to the apartment, and firefighters said the female was the only resident of the apartment that caught fire. Neighbors of the woman said the male who was with her was at one point her boyfriend. The fire chief said the injured woman was visibly upset when they arrived, and she was waiting separately from the injured man.

Neighbors also said they didn’t know either of the victims well because the woman had just moved in recently. Police and firefighters were still at the scene shortly after noon on Wednesday. The Housing Authority is finding a place for the victims to stay. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
