KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Prosecutors have charged two teens in the alleged assault of a 14-year-old girl that took place in a south Kansas City home Thursday morning.
Jimmy L. Barnes, 18, and Sterling W. Champion, 17, each face a felony count of sodomy in the first degree.
According to court documents, the 14-year-old girl was attacked inside a home near 68th and Jackson on Nov. 14. The girl told police she woke up and discovered a boy on top of her. The girl told police she struggled to get the boy off of her while four others in the room told her they were going to rape her. She said the boys also burned her with incense and one of them punched her in the nose, making it bleed. Court documents state the boys touched her inappropriately and took pictures of her in the nude.
“She said they ripped off her clothes and she ended up fighting back and actually was able to get out of the house and ran to a neighbor’s house,” Kansas City Police Spokesman Darin Snapp said.
In a phone interview with FOX 4’s Robert Townsend, the girl said the boys were tearing at her clothes.
“They laid me on the bed and they were tearing off my shirt and my bra,” she said. “If I wouldn’t have fought back, I’m sure they would have killed me because they were beating me and stuff. I was bleeding. I think they should go to jail.”
When police arrived at the home, the suspects tried to run away. Four were taken into custody. A fifth suspect remains at large.

The girl was treated at an area hospital and is now with her mother.
Prosecutors have requested a cash bond of $250,000 for Barnes and Champion. No other charges or action has been taken against the other three suspects at this time.
