GRANDVIEW, Mo. — Another 18-year-old man has been charged in the robbery of an 85-year-old Grandview veteran, bringing the total to two adults and three juveniles now identified as suspects from surveillance video.
Christian M. Melson faces robbery, burglary and two counts of armed criminal action charges. His bond was set at $100,000, and he must put up 10 percent of that before release.
Friday in the late afternoon, the first juvenile, a 14-year-old, was charged in Jackson County Family Court with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action
Also on Friday, Michael Bray, 18, of Grandview was arrested after his mother reportedly recognized her son from television reports.
She took him into police and he was charged and held on $200,000 cash bond.
According to court records, Bray can be seen pulling a handgun from his pocket and pointing it at the victim, while the other suspects ran into the man’s house.
Then, on Monday, two juveniles accused of robbing the man of ammunition and guns turned themselves into authorities.
“From what I understand, these kids just wanted to clear the air,” said Pat Clarke, Community Outreach Specialist with KCPD, said. “Do they acknowledge that they are the ones seen on the video, at least two of the ones? Well, I mean, they wouldn’t be down here if they wasn’t, that has a lot to do with it.”
The robbery so outraged another veteran last Friday that he allegedly called police and threatened to go to a school and shoot those students responsible.
Grandview Schools were placed on perimeter lock down because of the threat.
