KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A mother is pleading for help as her two-year-old son fights to live following a hit-and-run incident.
The little boy’s mother, Teresa Martinez, and the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department are asking for the public’s help obtaining information on a hit-and-run accident, which left the woman’s son, Eduardo Lopez Martinez, in critical condition.
Police said around 4:30 p.m. on Monday the two-year-old boy was critically injured when he was ran over by an older white four-door Chrysler in an alley way behind the apartment complex where he and his family lived, in the 1100 block of N. 32nd Street in KCK, while his mother was unloading groceries from her car. Witnesses said the vehicle sped off immediately following the incident. As of Wednesday, the child’s condition has improved, however he remains at the University of Kansas Hospital.
On Wednesday, Martinez fought through tears and used a translator to tell FOX 4 what happened.
“I want the person who is guilty of doing this to my son. I want him to own up to it because I know he had to feel when he crashed against my son. Please,” said interpreter Cecilia Abby, as she translated for Martinez.
Martinez says Eduardo is the youngest of her four children. He loves to eat and run, and the mother says she prays her son will be able to “run” out of the hospital.
The incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit/Critical Collision Response Team (CCRT), who is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
