KENTWOOD, Mich. — Police say a 12-year-old boy has stabbed a 9-year-old boy at a playground in western Michigan, sending the child to a hospital.
TV stations WOOD and WZZM report the stabbing happened Monday evening in Kentwood, near Grand Rapids.
Glen Stacey, who lives nearby, tells The Grand Rapids Press that the older boy approached him after the stabbing and asked to use his phone. He says the boy called 911 to report the attack. Stacey says he also called police and described the boy as “very calm.”
Police say the 9-year-old was stabbed in the back and the reason for the stabbing wasn’t immediately known. Police also didn’t release details of the condition of the wounded child.
Police took the older boy into custody to question him.
