KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A two-year-old child was rushed to a Kansas City fire station after being shot Friday afternoon.
Police say the child ended up at Fire Station 42 at Red Bridge and Hillcrest around 4:15 p.m. According to the Kansas City Fire Department, the child was believed to have been shot in the area of East 114th Street and Lewis Avenue in KCMO.
Police say father of the child say the two of them were sitting on the front porch of their residence, located in the 8700 block of East 114th Street, when he heard a gunshot and looked down to see his two-year-old had been shot. He then rushed the little boy to the nearby fire station for medical assistance.
The child was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound to his midsection and is listed in serious condition but expected to survive.
One woman, who lives two houses down from where the shooting took place, says this incident and other recent events make her want to move her and her young son out of the neighbood.
“It’s just sad how it’s happening to mainly kids these days, like what’s going on with all the kids, it’s ridiculous,” said Addy Kerr.
The shooting incident remains under investigation. Police have no suspect description at this time. If anyone has any information in this case, they are urged to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
