BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — Police have identified the suspects accused of dumping urine and feces and cigarette butts on a teenager with autism, who trusted his ‘friends’ to help him do the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Bay Village Police Chief Mark Spaetzel said Monday that investigators are gathering all the facts to present to the prosecutor’s office.
The boy’s mother released the video to make others aware of the bullying her son suffered.
His face was blurred to prevent further embarrassment.
“Once we found out about it, we were just horrified. He was embarrassed because he did not know what the contents were until afterwards, and then he didn’t want anybody to know,” the boy’s mom, Diane, told FOX 4 sister station FOX 8 in Cleveland. “They used his phone to tape it and they put it up on Instagram.”
The video shows him standing in a driveway of a private home where he’s only wearing underwear as the bucket is poured from on top of a garage. His brother Jacob said the culprits went too far with the joke.
“I mean, the first thing that popped into my mind was like, why could someone – how could someone do this? How could someone be so cruel?”
Bay High School cooperated with the investigation.
After the video was released, celebrities like “The Price is Right” host Drew Carey, and comedian Jenny McCarthy offered $10,000 rewards to find the teenagers responsible for the prank.
Police Chief Spaetzel said no reward was necessary, although he was grateful for their offers.
